"Aí Sim" Carnival Block: A Tribute to Rock in the Festivities
History and Tradition
The "Aí Sim" block, founded in 2017, is a tribute to the legendary band Forfun, which ended its activities in 2015. Parading in Comandante Xavier de Brito Square, known as "Praça dos Cavalinhos" (Little Horses Square), in Tijuca, the block celebrates the spirit of rock at Carnival, challenging the notion that lovers of the genre have no place in the festivities.
Musical Identity and Repertoire
The musical heart of "Aí Sim" is Forfun's music, which makes up about 90% of the repertoire. However, the block also incorporates other Brazilian rhythms such as samba, maculelê, funk, maracatu, coco, and afoxé. In addition to Forfun's hits, the block plays songs by bands from the "Riocore" movement of the 2000s, such as Dibob and Scracho, all adapted for Carnival.
Practical Information
The "Aí Sim" block parades on the Sunday after the main Carnival dates, starting at 12 pm and dispersing around 6 pm. The block's passionate bateria (drum section), with around 35 members, guarantees the animation and energy of the festivities.
