Born on the sands of Leblon beach, Areia got its name as an acronym for "Associação Recreativa Etílica Independente Amigos da Rede do Aloisio" (Independent Recreational Ethyl Association Friends of Aloisio's Net). Initially parading on Rua Dias Ferreira, the bloco now occupies the Leblon waterfront, attracting crowds of revelers.
Musical Identity and Repertoire
Areia is a traditional samba bloco, offering a lively repertoire that keeps revelers singing and dancing throughout the parade. Its performances are marked by contagious energy and the infectious joy that permeates the environment.
Practical Information
Areia's main parade takes place during Carnival, usually in the morning, around 7 am, on the Leblon waterfront. In 2020, the bloco attracted around 385,000 participants, attesting to its enormous popularity.
