Bloco Amoribunda: Creativity and Joy in São Paulo's Carnival
Bloco Amoribunda is one of the most original and fun carnival blocks in São Paulo. Founded in 2016, the block quickly gained popularity and became a tradition in the Aclimação neighborhood.
Name and Gathering Point
The name "Amoribunda" is a witty pun that plays with the words "amor" (love), "bunda" (butt), and "moribunda" (dying). Interestingly, the block's gathering point is behind the Vila Mariana cemetery, adding a touch of irony.
Homages and Traditions
Bloco Amoribunda parades through the streets of Aclimação, keeping the carnival tradition alive with marches and fun for all ages. A striking feature of the block is to honor important figures from the neighborhood and Brazilian culture. In previous editions, it has already paid tribute to Ailton Graça, Milhem Cortaz, and Arara Bambu.
In 2025, the block will honor Maurício Gasperini, former vocalist of the band RádioTáxi, an icon of national rock from the 1980s and an illustrious resident of Aclimação.
Parades and Structure
The Bloco Amoribunda parade usually takes place on Carnival Saturday. In 2025, it is scheduled for March 1st, with gathering at 2 pm and dispersal at 6 pm. The meeting point is at Avenida Engenheiro Luís Gomes Cardim Sangirardi, corner of Rua Ximbó.
A unique feature of Amoribunda is the division of the event into two parts: the Bloco Amorikids, aimed at children, which takes place from 10 am to 2 pm, and the main Bloco Amoribunda, which starts at 2 pm. This structure allows entire families to participate in the festivities.
Cultural Impact and Legacy
Bloco Amoribunda stands out not only for its music and revelry, but also for its cultural impact on the local community. The block contributes to the preservation and renewal of carnival traditions, while promoting social integration and the appreciation of local culture.
