Bloco do Ipê: Celebrating Inclusion in Rio's Carnival
Bloco do Ipê is a traditional carnival bloco that promotes inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities. Linked to Colégio IPE (Pedagogical Institution of Stimulation), in Tijuca, the bloco has participated in carnival festivities for many years, bringing joy and awareness to the streets.
History and Tradition
Bloco do Ipê has records of participation in carnival since 2014, parading through the streets of Tijuca and also in Porto da Aldeia, São Pedro da Aldeia. Its mission is to engage the community, especially families and people with disabilities, in carnival festivities.
Musical Identity
The bloco performs with live music, with musicians playing traditional carnival marches. Their marches often address themes of inclusion and equality. Bloco do Ipê stands out for its muse, "Ipebeleza", who represents the diversity and beauty of all participants.
Performances and Repertoire
Bloco do Ipê parades through the streets of Tijuca, departing from Colégio IPE, and also on Praia da Pitória, in Porto da Aldeia. In São Pedro da Aldeia, the bloco performs at events that include northeastern rhythms. The bloco's repertoire consists of traditional marches, such as "Mamãe Eu Quero" and "Me Dá Um Dinheiro Aí".
