Embark on the Antônio Carlos Show Block: A Feast of Classic Carnival Marches
The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is a melting pot of colors, rhythms, and joy, and the Antônio Carlos Show Block is one of its most vibrant ingredients. Created in 2002 by radio broadcaster Antônio Carlos de Araújo, the block is a celebration of traditional Carnival music.
The Genesis of the Block
The idea for the Antônio Carlos Show Block came from a joke with musician Nenéo, who recorded versions of songs by singer Roberto Carlos. With the success of Antônio Carlos' radio program, the block took on a life of its own, becoming a favorite in Glória.
Festive and Musical Identity
The block is known for its repertoire of traditional Carnival marches, which create a contagious and festive atmosphere. The name and activities of the block are a tribute to the popularity of Antônio Carlos' radio program.
Parade and Route
The Antônio Carlos Show Block parades during the Carnival period, usually on Saturdays. The gathering begins in the morning, around 9 am, at Rua do Russel, 434. The parade starts later, following a route that includes Largo da Glória, Av. Augusto Severo, Rua Mestre Valentim, and Av. Luís de Vasconcelos. In some years, the parade extends to Cinelândia. It is estimated that the block attracts around 3,000 revelers.
Classic Repertoire
The block's repertoire is a journey through time, with Carnival classics such as "Allah-la-ô", "Abre Alas" and "O Teu Cabelo Não Nega". The songs are performed with mastery, guaranteeing joy and the Carnival spirit.
