About the Bloco (Street Band)
Carnablack is a carnival bloco that honors Black music and culture, promoting the appreciation and dissemination of Afro-Brazilian heritage. Founded around 2006, the bloco mainly operates in the Center of Rio de Janeiro, concentrating its events on Avenida Treze de Maio.
History and Tradition
Carnablack emerged as a cultural movement that seeks to strengthen Black culture. In 2025, the bloco celebrated 19 years of existence, establishing itself as the largest independent Black bloco in Rio de Janeiro.
Musical Identity
Carnablack's musical repertoire is centered on Black music, including samba rock, R&B, hip-hop, and soul. The bloco presents a mix of national and international classics, as well as traditional carnival rhythms. Its performances are marked by high energy, dance, and celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture.
Parades and Performances
In 2025, Carnablack's main event took place on Saturday, March 1st, with gathering starting at 8 am, parade beginning at 12 pm, and closing at 7 pm. The bloco parades along Avenida Treze de Maio, near the Municipal Theater.
