"Cata Latas do Grajaú" is a Carnival block that unites samba, environmental awareness, and family inclusion. Founded in 2011 in the Grajaú neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro, the block stands out for its lively performances and original themes.
History and Tradition
Created in 2011, the block gained notoriety in 2012 with its performance at Largo da Verdun, attracting around 5,000 people. Since then, "Cata Latas do Grajaú" has established itself as part of the traditional Carnival celebrations in the neighborhood.
Musical Identity
The block plays traditional samba from the Rio Carnival, as well as pagode and other popular Brazilian rhythms. Its repertoire includes marchinhas and 90s funk, with emphasis on wind instruments.
Parades and Performances
The block's performances take place in Praça Nobel, in Grajaú, and annually on the streets of the neighborhood. "Cata Latas do Grajaú" also participates in the Ubuntu Carioca Project, promoting cultural events in different parts of the city.
Cultural Impact
The block promotes environmental awareness and respect through its original themes. In 2017, it addressed the issue of child labor in partnership with the Public Labor Ministry. "Cata Latas do Grajaú" is recognized for its inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere, welcoming people of all ages.
