Cobra Sarada Block - Edem School: Samba and Social Awareness at Carnival
About the Block
Founded in 2000 by students from Edem School, the Cobra Sarada block is known for its original music and political and social engagement. With original sambas and a strong connection to the school community, the block attracts revelers of all ages.
History and Tradition
Created in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, Cobra Sarada debuted on Rua Barão de Itambi, where Edem School was located until 2008. After a hiatus during the pandemic, the block returned in 2022, joining the 506 blocks registered in the Rio de Janeiro Street Carnival.
Musical Identity
Led by Master Rafael Machado, the Cobra Sarada drum section presents original sambas composed by students and teachers. The repertoire also includes songs by João Cavalcanti, Pedro Holanda, and Rodrigo Maranhão.
Parades and Performances
Cobra Sarada's parades take place during Carnival, starting between 5pm and 6pm. The traditional route starts at Parque Guinle, continues along Rua Gago Coutinho, and ends at Edem School, at number 14.

Cobra Sarada contributes to the Rio de Janeiro carnival with its original music and social engagement. The block strengthens the school community and promotes reflection on relevant issues in the country and the city.
