Cordão do Prata Preta emerged as a way to revitalize street Carnival in the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Conceived by residents of the Saúde neighborhood, the bloco is inspired by the history of the Vaccine Revolt of 1904, when Prata Preta led the resistance against mandatory vaccination.
