About the Block
Based at Rua Riachuelo, 270, in the Fátima neighborhood, Dragões da Riachuelo is a source of pride for the people of Rio. Its vibrant history contributes to the cultural identity of the community, becoming an integral part of the carnival scene.
History and Tradition
Founded over a decade ago, the block celebrated its 5th anniversary in 2016. In 2013, it honored the comedian Chico Anysio in its parade. In 2020, it paid tribute to the singer Tim Maia with the theme "From Rua do Riachuelo to Pontal, Call the Landlord, Tim Maia".
Musical Identity
Dragões da Riachuelo is known for its eclectic repertoire, which includes traditional samba, carnival marches, and gafieira. Its percussion section, although small, is sharp and features members from renowned samba schools, such as Carmelitas.
Parades and Performances
Traditionally, the block performs on February 10th and 13th. In 2024, its gathering brought together around 7,500 people. In addition to the parades, the block promotes cultural events at its headquarters, including theatrical performances.
