Founded in 2003 by former members of Monobloco, the bloco engages the public with its unique performances. ## History and Tradition Created in Ipanema, Empolga às 9 held its first official parade in 2004 in Botafogo. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the most lively blocos in the Rio Carnival. ## Musical Identity The bloco stands out for its fusion of samba de quadra, frevo, coco, maracatu, and funk. The repertoire includes everything from traditional songs to reinterpretations of artists such as Gilberto Gil and Rita Lee, also incorporating elements of rock, forró, and pop. ## Parades and Performances The main event of Empolga às 9 is the "Apotheotic Stationary Parade" on the Sunday before Carnival, on Ipanema beach.
