The Escangalha bloco (street band) was founded in 2007 and made its debut in 2008, parading with approximately 2,000 people in Santos Dumont Square. The bloco seeks to create an authentic street carnival, without the objective of growth or profit, presenting traditional samba themes and its own drum section.

About the Bloco

Founded in 2007, Bloco Escangalha is a champion of the traditional street carnival of Rio de Janeiro. With its own drum section, the bloco presents sambas from all eras, including classic samba-enredo songs from Rio's samba schools.

History and Tradition

Created by a group of friends, Escangalha debuted at the 2008 carnival in Praça Santos Dumont. The bloco stands out for its organization and tranquility, as well as the creative costumes of its members.

Musical Identity

Rooted in samba, Escangalha's repertoire covers sambas from different eras and styles. The bloco is known for playing traditional samba-enredo songs, reviving the essence of the Rio carnival.

Parades and Performances

Escangalha's parades traditionally start in the morning and focus on Rua Jardim Botânico, continuing to Praça Santos Dumont. The bloco performs in the Gávea neighborhood, contributing to the excitement of the carnival in the region.
