"Eu Não Venho Mais Aqui" Block: Rescuing the Joy of Old Carnivals
About the Block
The "Eu Não Venho Mais Aqui" (I'm Not Coming Here Anymore) block is a carnival group from Rio de Janeiro that seeks to revive the essence of traditional street carnivals. Created in 2011, the block brings to the streets the joy and spontaneity of celebrations of yesteryear, with a humorous touch inspired by the song "Cry, call me, beg... who knows, one day I'll come looking for you again."
History and Tradition
The block arose from the initiative of a group of friends who met in a bar in Abolição. Moved by the nostalgia of old carnivals, they decided to create a block to rescue that joy. Since then, "Eu Não Venho Mais Aqui" has been parading through the streets of Rio, bringing back the spirit of traditional carnivals.
Parades and Performances
The block holds street parades during the carnival period in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, the parade took place on a Saturday, at 5 pm, with a route that included Ferreira Leite, Gaspar, and Glaziou streets. In addition to Abolição, the block has also performed in the Pilares neighborhood.
Cultural Impact
"Eu Não Venho Mais Aqui" contributes to the Rio de Janeiro carnival by rescuing the spirit of the old street blocks. With its humorous name and repertoire that refers to the past, the block attracts an audience that seeks to relive the joy and spontaneity of traditional celebrations.
