Bloco Folões da ABRACES: Inclusion and Joy at Carnival
The Bloco Folões da ABRACES is an inclusive project that promotes the participation of people with disabilities in Carnival. Founded in 2018, the bloco focuses on Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, and seeks to create an accessible space where everyone can enjoy the festivities.
About the Bloco
Folões da ABRACES is an initiative of the Brazilian Association for the Rehabilitation and Assistance of the Blind and Deaf (ABRACES), which aims to promote social inclusion and accessibility at Carnival. The bloco has the support of local political figures, such as councilwoman Luciana Novaes, who acts as the bloco's godmother.
Parades and Performances
The bloco parades on Sundays during Carnival, usually starting around 2 pm. The parade takes place at the intersection of Rua Constante Ramos and Rua Domingos Ferreira and continues towards Posto 2 or Praça do Lido.
Repertoire
The repertoire of Folões da ABRACES is marked by samba, including a samba composed especially for the bloco by visually impaired musician Neilho Ribeiro. The bloco's performances are joyful and inclusive, promoting diversity and equality at Carnival.
