## History and Origin The Cacuia Tribe was formed in 2008 in the Cacuia neighborhood, on Governador Island, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The bloco emerged with the aim of preserving the cultural tradition of the neighborhood, considered the "cradle of samba" on the Island, due to the founding of the União da Ilha samba school in the same location. The Cacuia Tribe has a strong connection with União da Ilha and is inspired by the centenary bloco Cacique de Ramos, being considered its "godson". In 2023, the bloco celebrated its 23rd anniversary, although the official founding date is 2008. ## Proposal and Identity The bloco's proposal is to keep alive the spirit of joy and animation of the street carnival in the Cacuia neighborhood. The Cacuia Tribe is recognized for rescuing the old tradition of street carnival in the region and is considered one of the most traditional and important blocos on Governador Island. The bloco also contributes to the preservation of the history and culture of the Cacuia neighborhood and the Island. The Cacuia Tribe has a strong connection with the local community, with many residents participating in its activities. ## Structure and Performances The bloco's percussion section, known as "Warriors of Rhythm", plays a fundamental role in its performances. The bloco holds an annual parade during carnival, usually on Carnival Tuesday. In addition, it promotes preparatory rehearsals for carnival and an annual birthday party. The bloco also holds a competition to choose the theme song for each carnival. ## Repertoire The musical style of the Cacuia Tribe includes traditional samba and other rhythms. The bloco presents its own theme song during the parades, in addition to classic songs from the Rio de Janeiro carnival. The repertoire also includes tributes to the Cacique de Ramos bloco.
