Street Drum Academy: Transforming Street Carnival in São Paulo
Introduction
Founded in 2018, the Street Drum Academy (BdR) has revolutionized the street carnival scene in São Paulo. With an innovative approach, the academy has trained a new generation of percussionists, making its presence felt in several famous blocks in the capital.
Percussionist Training
The BdR offers structured courses for all levels, from beginner to advanced. The weekly 90-minute classes cover drum and percussion techniques, preparing students for practice in carnival blocks. The academy has over 200 students, mostly women between 30 and 40 years old.
Musical Repertoire
The BdR's repertoire is diverse, including rhythms such as jazz staircase, Dandara samba, and teapot samba. The academy also stands out for honoring samba masters, such as Mestre André.
Participation in Blocks
The BdR is a guaranteed presence in approximately 20 blocks in São Paulo, including names like Bloco do Rock, Te Amo, Mas Só Como Amigo, and Caça e Caçador. The academy also performs and participates in events related to carnival.
