Friends of Joaquim Méier: An Explosion of Revelry in Méier
Founded in 2000, the "Friends of Joaquim Méier" bloco is a carnival institution that enlivens the streets of Méier, in Rio de Janeiro. Led by the transparent Cezinha, the bloco celebrates its 20th anniversary with an irresistible proposal: to liven up the street carnival on a non-profit basis.
History and Tradition
With the aim of making the Méier carnival more joyful, the bloco was founded on February 15, 2000. Since then, it has become a symbol of the region, annually honoring people who contribute to the community. In 2020, Dr. Aloísio Freitas was honored in a special parade.
