About Bloco de Pífanos de São Paulo
The Bloco de Pífanos of São Paulo, founded in 1994, preserves traditional Northeastern Brazilian music in the city, playing frevo, baião, and xote. Their cheerful and relaxed performances feature pífanos (a type of flute), zabumbas (a type of bass drum), and triangles.
The bloco performs annually at the São Paulo carnival, parading through the streets of the city center. Open rehearsals are also held throughout the year.
