About Unidos da Barra Funda

Founded in 2013, Unidos da Barra Funda is a community carnival bloco (street band) that values traditional samba and the participation of residents. Its annual parade, held in February, travels through the streets of the Barra Funda region in São Paulo, with a contagious drum section and simple costumes made collectively.

The bloco's motto is "where joy resides with respect and unity among people," reflecting its philosophy of combining festivity with social engagement. Its community structure prioritizes the participation of residents and seeks to revitalize local carnival traditions, contrasting with the grandeur of the samba schools of Anhembi.

About Unidos da Barra Funda

Unidos da Barra Funda: A Community Block with the Soul of Traditional Samba

Unidos da Barra Funda emerged in 2013 as an initiative to revitalize carnival traditions in the eponymous region of São Paulo. With a motto that values joy, respect, and unity, the block distinguishes itself from the grand parades of Anhembi by maintaining a community structure.

Identity and Simplicity

Unidos da Barra Funda values the participation of residents and the preservation of traditional samba. Its parades feature around 250 to 500 revelers, who wear simple costumes, often made collectively. This intentional simplicity contrasts with the grandeur of the samba schools, reinforcing the accessible and democratic nature of the block.

Route and Rhythm

The block's gathering point is on Rua Dr. Ribeiro de Almeida, following along Rua dos Americanos, Cônego Vicente Miguel Marino, and Boraceia, before returning to the starting point. The "Furious Battery," the block's percussion group, lends a contagious rhythm to the procession, enlivening the revelers.

Unidos da Barra Funda is a block that unites the joy of carnival with social engagement, becoming a reference in the Barra Funda region and an important contributor to the preservation of São Paulo's carnival culture.
