Bloco das Divas: Celebrating Diversity and Female Empowerment in Rio's Carnival
Bloco das Divas, a collective of women from Rio, emerged in 2013 with the aim of rescuing the tradition of female carnival blocks, in a predominantly male environment. Based in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, the block promotes diversity, respect, and culture, creating fun, family-friendly events.
Identity and Purpose
Bloco das Divas seeks to empower women and provide a peaceful and welcoming environment for all. Preserving Brazilian and Carioca traditions, the block promotes culture and encourages family participation in a festive and integrated atmosphere.
Repertoire and Performances
During carnival parades and events, Bloco das Divas presents a mix of rhythms that animate the public. Traditional carnival marches are joined by other styles, such as classic samba, popular music, and even funk, creating a contagious and diverse atmosphere.
Events and Presence in Carnival
Bloco das Divas participates in the street parades of Rio de Janeiro on Carnival Mondays. In addition, it organizes feijoadas (bean stew parties) in preparation for the parades and rehearsals open to the public. On some occasions, the block's events are held at Sítio BGA, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes.
