Cidade Jardim Carnival Block: A Pioneer in the Belo Horizonte Carnival
About the Block
Founded in 1961, the Cidade Jardim Recreational Guild Samba School is a pioneer in the history of the Belo Horizonte carnival. Introducing the format of the samba schools of Rio de Janeiro, the block is known as a "state of mind" by the community.
History and Tradition
Inspired by União Serrana, Cidade Jardim emerged with the aim of innovating the city's carnival. Its first performance in 1962 earned the title of "Extra Carnival Championship" with the theme "Brazilian Fauna". The block holds 16 titles in the Special Group of the Belo Horizonte Carnival, including a record of 11 consecutive championships.
Musical Identity
Cidade Jardim presents samba-enredo with specific themes. In 1983, the samba "A grande festança das gerais" was composed by Serginho do Cavaco and Toninho Ribeiro.
Parades and Performances
The block performs with drums and wings in the official parades of the Belo Horizonte Carnival. Its headquarters are located in Conjunto Santa Maria.

Cidade Jardim has contributed significantly to the development of the Belo Horizonte carnival. Its colors red, black, yellow and white, and its symbol, the peacock, are registered trademarks of the block.
