Bloco das Emílias e Viscondes

Bloco das Emílias e Viscondes is a carnival bloco that parades in the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. It was created in 2014 by a group of friends who wanted to bring the characters from Monteiro Lobato's children's book, 'Sítio do Picapau Amarelo' ('The Yellow Woodpecker Farm') to the carnival. The bloco's name refers to the characters Emília, the rag doll, and Visconde de Sabugosa, the intellectual corn cob.

The bloco's repertoire consists of traditional carnival marches and songs adapted with lyrics that tell stories about the characters from 'Sítio do Picapau Amarelo'. The group aims to evoke the magic and joy of childhood through their music, costumes, and street parades. The bloco's goal is to honor Brazilian literature and culture while promoting fun and celebration during Carnival. The bloco's parades attract families and people of all ages who enjoy the playful and nostalgic atmosphere created by the bloco. It usually parades in the Vila Madalena neighborhood in São Paulo, a traditional area for street carnival celebrations.

The Bloco das Emílias e Viscondes distinguishes itself through its unique theme. It is one of the few blocos that focuses specifically on Brazilian children's literature. The blocos's members often dress up as characters from the book, bringing the stories to life during the parade. The bloco's colorful and creative costumes contribute to its unique visual identity and appeal. The parades are characterized by their festive and family-friendly atmosphere, making it a popular choice for those looking for a unique Carnival experience.
