About Bloco Klezmer do Bom Retiro
Founded in 2011, the Bloco Klezmer do Bom Retiro unites klezmer music, traditional Jewish music from Eastern Europe, with Brazilian rhythms. The bloco, which references the Bom Retiro neighborhood in São Paulo, presents joyful melodies, danceable rhythms, and instruments such as clarinet, accordion, and violin, incorporating elements of samba and other Brazilian rhythms.
In addition to the carnival parade in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, the bloco holds regular rehearsals and performances in various locations in São Paulo. It also participates in music festivals and cultural events, spreading the fusion between klezmer music and Brazilian rhythms.
