Cordão Quintal da XIKA: Celebrating Resistance and Black Empowerment

Founded in 2018 by Black women from the Cordovil neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Cordão Quintal da XIKA is a carnival bloco that honors the quilombo leader Chica da Silva.

Identity and Purpose

The bloco stands out for its female and Black representation, addressing themes such as female empowerment, resistance, and Black culture in its performances.

Musical Structure

Accompanied by drums, cavaquinho, pandeiro, and other traditional samba instruments, Cordão Quintal da XIKA presents samba de raiz and samba-enredo, valuing the musical roots of carnival.
