Ambassadors of Merriment: Celebrating Merriment and Inclusion in Carnival
About the Bloco
Founded in 2000 in Rio de Janeiro, the "Embaixadores da Folia" bloco (street band) is a manifestation of joy and inclusion. With the aim of maintaining the festive spirit, the bloco welcomes people from all places to celebrate Carnival together.
History and Tradition
Conceived by singer and composer Cláudio Cruz, the bloco emerged at the CIEP (Integrated Center for Public Education) on Rua do Lavradio. Over the years, "Embaixadores da Folia" has established itself as a "bloco de embalo" (rousing bloco), enlivening revelers with its contagious music.
Musical Identity
The bloco's repertoire covers varied rhythms, from traditional marchinhas (carnival marches) to samba-enredos (samba school anthems) and frevo. The music is performed by a live band, creating an engaging and energetic atmosphere.
Parades and Performances
Traditionally, "Embaixadores da Folia" parades on the Sunday before Carnival, participating in the official street carnival of Rio de Janeiro. The meeting point is at Buraco do Lume, in the Center, and the parade runs through nearby streets.
Cultural Impact
"Embaixadores da Folia" contributes to the preservation of carnival culture and promotes joy and unity among revelers. Its inclusive proposal and lively music make the bloco a highlight in the Rio de Janeiro carnival scene.
