Introduction
The Honório Gurgel Block, also known as Somos HG (We are HG), is a highlight of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival that celebrates the culture and community of the Honório Gurgel neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
History and Tradition
Deeply connected to the neighborhood, Somos HG emerged to strengthen the identity and history of Honório Gurgel. The name "Somos HG" represents the pride and unity of the residents. The neighborhood is known for its train station and for being the birthplace of the singer Anitta.
Musical Identity and Repertoire
The Somos HG parades are marked by vibrant rhythms and colors, creating a contagious atmosphere. The block presents traditional Carnival songs, such as samba and marchinhas, which liven up the streets of the city.
Practical Information
Somos HG regularly participates in the street parades of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. In 2023, the parade took place at Rua Américo Rocha, 1141, in Honório Gurgel. In 2024 and 2025, the parade is scheduled to take place at the same location, in Marechal Hermes, a bordering neighborhood. The parades usually take place around 4 pm.
